Post Title - Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Department - Engineering

Responsible To - Engineering Manager

Aim Of Job - Full lifecycle of EC&I projects.

Summary Of Role

The candidate shall have a well-rounded background in electrical, control and Instrumentation engineering with a strong knowledge of PLC systems and Instrumentation. It is essential that the candidate has experience working in process industries, ideally with experience working on chemical and petrochemical sites within the UK. The candidate will require good site management skills and possess a good commercial awareness. The candidate shall be able to interpret the clients’ verbal or high level requirements and develop them into a complete engineered solution, will be able to carry out site survey and investigation works, will be able to develop project budgets and costs, have good communication skills and be able to liaise with the client on a day to day bases, be able to work remote from the head office on the clients site, be able to manage workload and project commitments, identify any head office resource requirements of a project and manage this accordingly.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The senior engineer will be tasked with delivering all C&I elements of office and site based projects, and assisting other team members these responsibilities will include:

  • C&I project responsibilities including detailed design, specification of instrumentation and development of PLC, HMI & SCADA systems
  • Lead engineering of C&I project activities / responsibilities and for reporting into the project team
  • Communication with the client and other engineering disciplines
  • Development of engineering budgets for projects
  • Attending Project and general client meetings
  • Creating tender packages for installation works (Scope of Works)
  • Site surveying of projects
  • Issuing tenders and tender appraisals of procured items
  • Assist with site testing and commissioning activities
  • Coordinating with the Clients and or third party engineering recourse
  • Assisting with plant fault finding and resolving plant production issues, which are generated from a PLC, instrument or electrical failure
  • Maintaining all C&I documentation and ensuring all new projects are handed over to the project manager or client
  • Specification of electrical equipment including PLC, HMI, SCADA and Instrumentation
  • Development of PLC based control systems including hardware, network and software configuration
  • Hands on experience of PLC systems such as Siemens S7, Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi
  • Development of C&I design which will include but not be limited to the following:
    • Project Block cable and single line diagrams
    • Instrument and valve data sheets
    • Instrument Loop diagrams
    • Junction box and connection diagrams
    • Control Panel and MCC panel schematics and GA’s
    • Specification of Hazardous area and non-hazardous area equipment
    • I.S safety calculations
    • Writing/assisting with control system User Requirement Specifications
    • Development of Cause & effects matrix
    • Various Schedules (Termination, cable, label, junction box etc.)
  • Review ways of working and where possible implement changes to improve safety and efficiency

Qualifications Required

  • Degree in either Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation & Control or HNC/HND with relevant experience
  • 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and other basic computer programmes)
  • Able to use AutoCAD
  • Familiar with DCS systems
  • Be familiar with Functional Safety Systems and the requirements of BSEN 61508 & BSEN 61511
  • Familiar with DSEAR and hazardous area requirements

  • In order to gain further experience or to meet the requirements of HTS, employees may be required to work at any location within HTS or client sites that HTS is working on.

  • To provide technical support and assistance to other members of the engineering team.
  • To assist with coaching and development of junior team members.
  • To manage staff performance using the Performance Appraisal system, ensuring that annual and interim meetings take place and objectives are agreed and actioned. (Will only apply where the post holder supervises staff)
  • To be responsible for improving your performance by participating in the Performance Appraisal process with your manager.
  • To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post.

HTS Engineering are pleased to announce that Jon Reddin has been promoted to the role of Operations Manager.

This is a new role for HTS and will support the overall business operations and engineering teams both office and site based to deliver the goals of the business for projects and support future growth by providing support and guidance both internally and externally to customers and suppliers.

Jon has been with the company for a number of years and has been instrumental in delivering and supporting a number of key projects and business activities. Jon has worked through and supported not only the site services but also the engineering teams and has gained a great knowledge and understanding of what makes HTS a unique and efficient company. Jon has demonstrated and applied his skills to a number of different areas and has continually progressed and grown as HTS has grown.

Jon’s primary role will be to provide a direct line of support and management for personnel and be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of projects and business activities and will provide a lead role and be responsible for delivering and maintaining those activities and projects.

Monday 1st January, 2016

Tom is employed as a Junior Electrical Engineer and is currently studying an ONC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and also undertaking a CAD course in the evening’s. Tom will be finding his feet in each sector of the HTS business to get an overall feel of how HTS can deliver a project from start to finish. Tom will be starting out helping in the panel shop to get an understanding of drawings and components. Tom will gradually move out of that department and move into the Engineering department.

HTS Engineering group are pleased to announce that due to our continuing success, we have re-located our head office operations from Number 17 Beeston Court Runcorn to Number 7 Beeston Court.

Number 7 will provide HTS Engineering Group with larger premises to accommodate the growing engineering and PLC/SCADA teams. With dedicated work areas for:

General Engineering Office:

Open plan office environment with direct access to Project administration and Management teams.

PLC / SCADA Development Area:

Dedicated development area for PLC and SCADA teams with test and simulation facility to enable clients and end users to fully simulate and test their systems prior to onsite installation and. This facility will ensure that clients have a dedicated area for testing their systems and if required can be incorporated into Operator training and familiarisation prior to the systems going live on site.
